Malaysia's major convention venues compared

You are shortlisting convention venues and want the published facts side by side before requesting quotes.

Opens WhatsApp with a draft you can edit before sending. Nothing is sent automatically.

The short answer

Malaysia's major convention venues publish their facts in different ways: some give delegate numbers, some give floor areas, and some direct you to a sales team. The table keeps each venue's own figures and units, so you can see what is published and what to ask.

A venue's headline figure is a starting point. The capacity that matters is the one the venue confirms in writing for your layout and date.

The venues side by side

Figures are quoted as each venue publishes them, accessed 10 October 2026. Units differ between venues, so do not compare them directly.

Reading the figures

Venues use different units: delegates, attendees, guests, pax, seats and square metres. A theatre layout, a banquet layout and a classroom layout of the same hall give very different numbers, so ask for the figure for your layout.

Where a venue publishes no capacity, the useful move is to ask for the layout plan and the approved capacity for your set-up, in writing. Separating a venue's stated capacity from the approved layout shows how.

How to choose

  1. Start from your programme: how many people in plenary, how many in breakouts, whether you need an exhibition area.
  2. Ask each shortlisted venue for the capacity of the halls you need in your layouts, and for the dates it can hold.
  3. Compare access using the venue's own directions, and check the last leg for your delegates. A venue shortlist matrix keeps this organised.
  4. Walk the site, or inspect remotely, using the venue requirements matrix so each venue answers the same questions.
  5. Ask each venue to show tax, service charge and rental lines separately. See SST and service charge on quotes.
  6. Check which approvals sit with the venue and which with you. See permits and approvals.

Support from the destination

Business events bureaus can introduce venues and, for qualifying international events, may offer support. See MyCEB support for business events and professional-event planning across Malaysia.

Confirm before you commit

Venues update their facilities and figures, and availability and pricing come only from the venue. Confirm capacities, dates and terms with each venue in writing before you sign.

A fictional shortlist for a 1,200-delegate conference

Fictional organisation and figures, for illustration only.

The Persatuan Fiktif Pengurus Logistik needs a plenary for about 1,200 delegates and six breakout rooms. The planner lists every venue's published figures, then writes to each shortlisted venue with the same four questions.

Question to each venueWhy
What is the approved capacity of the hall in theatre layout and in banquet layout?Published figures use different units and layouts
Which breakout rooms are on the same level, and at what capacities?Delegates need short moves between sessions
Which dates can you hold, and for how long?Availability comes only from the venue
What is included in the hire, and what is charged separately?Quotes need to match line by line

Handle it in-house, or bring in help?

Your team can usually handle this when

  • You have a short list of one or two venues and a clear programme.
  • Your committee can visit or inspect remotely.
  • Your timeline is not tight.

Outside planning help earns its fee when

  • You are comparing venues in different cities and need one comparable brief.
  • The programme depends on layout decisions that affect venue choice.
  • You need quotes, capacities and approvals tracked against one timeline.

Want the shortlist compared like for like?

An Event Blueprint includes the venue requirements and supplier questions in a single set, so each venue answers the same questions and the quotes line up. We prepare it remotely for venues anywhere in Malaysia. Send us your brief and shortlist, and we will reply with the level of support that fits and what it would cover.

Questions organisers ask

Which venue has the largest capacity?

Venues publish figures in different units and layouts, so compare the approved capacity each confirms for your layout, not the headline figure.

Can I find venue prices here?

Pricing and availability come from the venue. Ask each shortlisted venue for a written quote with tax and service charge shown.

Do these venues all publish capacities?

Some do, some direct you to a floor plan or a sales team. The table shows what each one publishes.

Does the venue handle my permits?

Ask the venue which licences and fire arrangements it holds for your layout and which items stay with you.
