No city-centre venue is confirmed on an official page, so put the questions below to each venue.
What to verify for Johor Bahru
- Is the venue taking bookings for your dates? Ask the operator to confirm in writing. Leave out any venue that cannot confirm its status.
- Which council covers the address? Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB) is the city council. Its administrative area page is a map image with no list of areas, so ask MBJB how the boundary is defined. Other Johor councils, such as MPKu and MBPG, are linked from the MBIP portal, so check an edge address against them too.
- Does the venue or its landlord need an MBJB approval for your programme? MBJB's portal has rental pages for its own premises and spaces. Ask MBJB what applies to your event.
- How will delegates arrive? Tourism Johor names Larkin Sentral, KTM, Senai International Airport and the Stulang Laut jetty terminal as entrances. It says city buses run mostly from Larkin Sentral or stops opposite City Square. Ask each operator for the service on your date.
- What is the last stretch from the arrival point to the venue door? Walk or ride it yourself and write the steps. Do not copy a time or distance from a map.
- Where will delegates stay, and how do they reach the venue? Ask each hotel for rooms in writing and ask how guests get to the venue. Shortlist hotels together with each venue.
- Which dates are clear? Check the state weekend and holidays on the Johor page, then test your dates with the host-city date checker.
Why access and accommodation sit next to the room
A city-centre shortlist often fails because delegates cannot find the entrance, or must cross the city to sleep. So put access and accommodation in the same grid as the room.
Then use the venue shortlist matrix to separate the needs a venue must meet from the preferences that only rank the venues that qualify.
Johor Bahru is reached from several directions
Tourism Johor calls Johor Bahru the state capital and economic centre, and delegates can arrive by road, rail, air or ferry. So the shortlist must say which arrival point each delegate group uses.

A fictional association builds its shortlist

Persatuan Fiktif Akauntan Perdagangan plans a one-day forum for about 150 delegates. Its first draft lists three venues by room alone.
The secretary adds the arrival point for each delegate group, the hotel route and the venue's booking status. One venue cannot confirm that it takes bookings on the date, so it comes off the list.
